mini grammar lesson

knotty words prove tough for students, and affect/effect is one of the top crimes.  here’s the trick i impart to all those who come my way:

A-ffect is an Action.  A for Action.  Anything else is an E-ffect.

for example.  ”Text-to-phone charitable operations affected an increase in giving to Haiti during this latest disaster; the effect of these donations, however, is more fuzzy.”

just in case you were making this mistake today.
